On Thursday night, Jim Dodson spoke at the Greensboro History Museum to a full house. The event served as a local launch for his book, "The Road that Made America." The book is an epic account of the eight-hundred-mile long wagon road from Philadelphia to Georgia. We haven't had time to read our copy yet, but we're thinking it will remind us a little bit of Steinbeck's "Travels with Charley" and a little bit of Charles Kuralt's "On the Road" series.
Jim was the first editor of the O. Henry Magazine and it launched 14 years ago in the Greensboro History Museum, so it was fitting for Jim to talk about his latest book in the same space. We hope you will stop by today for the Flashback 1970's event that begins at 11:00 am. Parking near 130 Summit Avenue and the event is free. Greensboro played a significant role in the history of the Great Wagon Road (that made America), and you can see plenty related to that era, including a stage coach, if you stop by the museum. The more you dig into the history of Greensboro and the United States, when told by a master storyteller like Jim Dodson, the more you will want to learn. The Greensboro History Museum is a great resource.
Happy Saturday!
