June is Pride Month. A year after the Stonewall Riots in 1969, marches have been held and eventually. Pride Month recognizes contributions of the LGBTQ+ community as well as a way to show support and to recognize the contributions of a group that has been marginalized. This past weekend, as we were driving around the Green Valley neighborhood, not too far from the Green Valley Swim & Racquet Club, we noticed this freshly-painted, rainbow sign. Either the owners love bright colors, specifically rainbows, or, they want to show their support for the LGBTQ+ community. We're hoping for the latter.
While the Greensboro Pride Festival isn't until September 20, 2025, we can start today by helping our LGBTQ+ friends know Greensboro is a safe space full of inclusive people. There are places like Guilford Greene that work hard to advance equity and inclusion. May we all be accepting of people whose relationships look different from our own. If you are looking for an inclusive event in June, The Guilford Green Power of Pride Celebration and Concert will be on Sunday, Sune 22, from 4-7pm in South End. Allies are welcome. In the meantime, we're betting this house in Green Valley is inclusive and inviting.
Happy Tuesday!
