Last night, the Center for New North Carolinians (CNNC) held a fundraiser and community building event they called Beyond Barriers: A Night of Unity. It was an opportunity to invite the community in to learn more about the organization and to celebrate all the fine work it does for the community. Dr. Raleigh Bailey, Founder and Director Emeritus of the CNNC, was the keynote speaker. Additionally, two guests of honor spoke, and the Ballet Folklorico Mexican Tradition of Julio Ruiz performed. Their performance is what is featured in the above photo.
The CNNC was established in 2001 to support immigrant and refugee outreach, and has been a part of the UNC Greensboro campus since its inception. Last night's event was held in the Alumni House on the UNCG Campus in the Oakley Family Reception Room. Approximately 85 people were in attendance. Let's hope this gala becomes an annual event. It was an example of the strength the immigrant population has brought to the Greensboro community. It was also a fine example of a community based project, made possible by the hard work of faculty and staff members at UNCG. The initiative conceptualized and brought to fruition under the leadership of Chancellor Pat Sullivan.
Happy Thursday!
