Peck Elementary School is scheduled to open today. The original Clara J. Peck Elementary School has roots that date back to 1929. Ms. Peck was Greensboro's first public health nurse. The building was erected on a 37 acre lot. The old building still stands in front of the above state-of-the art K-8 school in the Glenwood neighborhood at the corner of Lovett and Florida Streets. The theme of the school is expeditionary learning which focuses on team groupings and learning that is interactive and collaborative. Reading about the educational model is well worth your while (see HERE).
The above photo only captures a snippet of the building that looks more like a community college campus than a K-8 public school. The school is made possible by the bonds passed in Guilford County in 2020 and 2022. See HERE to get a better view of the school as a whole and hear from a teacher who is moved to tears talking about transitioning from the old to new facility and all it will mean to the students who attend.
Happy Monday and Happy First Day in the New School to all of the children who are scheduled to transition to the new facility.
