The New Brooks Global Elementary School opened this month at 400 Ashland Avenue. The Brooks Pandas have relocated from Westover Terrace beside Grimsley and are enjoying their brand-new, state-of-the-art facility. To help orient you, the school's backyard neighbor is the Greensboro Arboretum and the other side is a block off of Walker Avenue, leading to West Market Street. The K-5 school is a 3-story building and 80,000 sq. ft. This lovely classroom is an example of the lighting, furniture, and interior decor. With global studies as the theme, you can bet geography skills feature prominently. The desks have maps on them and the tent cards have names of continents. If you notice, the desks are on wheels, providing so many options to classroom configurations- from small groups, to rows, to a paideia circle. The chairs don't have wheels and, if you have ever taught in an elementary school classroom, you might understand why!
The new school is on a rather small lot- seven acres- however, there is a playground and space for children to play and explore. How wonderful to see this taxpayer money put to such good use. Once you see these new schools in Greensboro, you realize the educational opportunities they provide. The lottery for rising Kindergarten students, Fall 2025, has passed; however if you are interested, you can always submit an application for Fall 2026. The program is so strong and teachers so talented, even in the old facility, space filled quickly.
