The Virgin Mary at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church stands dutifully, looking over the flowers a member left for her. Likely, the white flowers were from a wedding or funeral. They were so beautiful. This is the view you see as you drive by on West Market Street. The church was built in 1952 in memory of Ethel Clay Price by her husband, insurance executive Julian Price. Mrs. Price converted to Catholicism and was said to be an ardent devotee to the Virgin Mary. Although Mr. Price was a devout Baptist and Mrs. Price Catholic, they supported each other's religions.
About two years ago, someone defaced this Virgin Mary statue. However, she was soon restored and returned to her pedestal. On a sunny day, she looks so beautiful. The bench in front of the statue is a great place to sit and reflect, regardless of one's religion.
Happy Sunday!
