Meet Lavender Tatum, truly an expert on everything vintage and haute couture. The above photo was taken at the Greensboro History Museum this summer during their "Forties Flashback Family Fun Day." Lavender, who only graduated from high school a few years ago, but is quite a timeless old-soul when it comes to knowing the history and provenance of items, especially clothing. Lavender volunteered at the history museum's Forties Flashback event not only bringing items to display, but also to help dress docents in period clothing. The above dresses are part of a collection Lavender brought to the event. Lavender meticulously restored the above beaded, silk, & tulle dress and has all of the original documentation, including the NYC designer's original drawings and the bill of sale. Knowing the provenance of the dress, a collector of NYC couture will easily value it at several thousand dollars.
Lavender co-owns Revision Vintage, located at 313 East Market Street and also has a personal business Duck Lane Vintage. The latest item to appear in a Duck Lane Vintage Instagram story is an introduction to Glenny, a meticulously detailed 1937 Jaguar town car in perfect condition. We can't wait to hear the stories about the adventures of Glenny and where he lands. We also look forward to many years of following the adventures of Lavender who is truly a local expert and lover of the history of items made and used by humans over the decades. In this era of living virtually, where photos, movies, games and more are housed on cell phones, it seems the younger generations don't collect anything. To find someone who appreciates and has great expertise on vintage items is special. After spending the afternoon together and getting a great interview, we failed to ask about the origin of the name- Lavender. Oh well, we'll save that question for the next interview. Revision Vintage opens at 1:00 today. Now that the sun is shining and the rain has stopped, we just may head down there and see what's new; or old.
Happy Saturday!
