Today's photo takes us to Holliday Circle at West McGee and Greene Street. The statue in the center of the circle, by local sculptor James Barnhill, is of Natty Greene. In the background, you see the iconic Lincoln Financial Group buildings with the LFG light at the top. It alternates with the time and temperature. Remember when there weren't cell phones to inform us of the time and temperature? What a nostalgic feature. Peeking out on the left is the Hampton Inn and Suites.
Notice there are two busses in the traffic circle. the one in the foreground is a Veterans Resource Ride. In 2020, the public transportation agency transformed a 40-ft municipal transit bus into a mobile resource center for veterans and their families. The bus is actually available for anyone to ride, however, there is information about resources for veterans displayed inside, and the driver is a veteran.* The more public transportation gets used, the better the system will become. As you can see, the transportation department works hard to study what resources will benefit the community. It is so enjoyable to walk around downtown and see what we stumble upon. Personally, we use the Hopper Trolley, but need to use the bus system more. How about you?
Happy Thursday (the new Friday)!
