New Light Missionary Baptist Church has a rich history, dating back to 1891. In the earliest years, it was in a different location. The above building, that also has a family life center behind is located at 1105 Willow Road, across from Dudley High School. The pastor, loved by the community, is the Rev. Dr. Cardes Brown Jr. who has served New Light since 1975. While originally from Rocky Mount, the son of a preacher, he first came to Greensboro to attend North Carolina A&T State University, and decided to make Greensboro his home. He is so loved by the community that the City of Greensboro has named the portion of Willow Road where the church is located, Rev. Dr. Cardes Brown Jr. Rev. Dr. Brown serves community not only in a spiritual way, but also by serving many groups committed to social justice. Read more about him HERE. His wife, Diane Piece Brown, serves alongside him.
Service times are 7:30 am and 10:45 am on Sunday mornings, with Sunday School at 9:30 am. They also have mid-week opportunities to worship on Wednesday with lunch served at 12 noon and a service at 7:00 pm. And, for those who can't get out, or in need of another opportunity for prayer, there is an 8:00pm prayer line on Thursdays. This is one of those churches committed to helping the community in any way it can. As a missionary Baptist church, they evangelize both locally and globally. In a world where everything is changing so quickly, it is refreshing to learn of a community like New Light that has had decades of stability.
Happy Sunday!
