May 10, 2024 was the night the Northern Lights came to Greensboro. We didn't capture the best photo on the internet, but last night, between 10:30pm and 11:00 pm, we did capture a photo of that strange weather phenomenon that extended into the south. We will always remember seeing them at night. Imagine what people thought in previous centuries without light pollution when the night sky lit up with a colorful show. We learned of this remarkable experience when others started posting photos. Apparently, they are the result of a geomagnetic storm.
We will head out again to have a look tonight. The best aurora is usually seen between 10:00 pm and 2:00 am. and visibility is best from higher altitude and in a place of low light pollution. We drove around in northwest Greensboro to take this photo. We hope you get a chance to see them and that we get an even better photo this evening. The blur to the right was a car coming along.
Happy Saturday!
