Bright Star is live musical theatre playing until Sunday at the Sunset Theatre at 234 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro, NC. We had the good fortune of attending last night's show, and, it reminded us so much of Triad Stage. The music and acting was superb. The theatre is intimate and located in the center of town. While the production was in Asheboro, so many of the people involved (especially the musicians) had connections to Greensboro and Guilford County. Above, is a photo of the cast at the end of the production.
The script was written by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell. If you want tickets, see here. If you like live theatre and have time to go see this production, it is top quality. The setting is the Blue Ridge Mountains and Asheville, North Carolina in 1923 and 1945. If you don't mind spoilers, see the synopsis, here. As for the Sunset Theatre, it dates to 1929, only two years after Greensboro's Carolina Theatre. How wonderful that it is still in use.
Happy Friday!
