The above new construction is located at the intersection of Maryland Drive and Battleground Avenue, at the southwest corner of the Target at Lawndale Crossing. This 90,750 square foot structure is being built on the 1.25 acre lot that has been empty for a good while. Formerly, it had been Andy's Mart. The new facility will be a storage unit, easily accessible to the Kirkwood and Irving Park neighborhoods.* One hint that this will be a storage unit is the fact that there are minimal (if any) windows. It is scheduled to open March 2024.
Noteworthy to us is the fact that the construction crew was working on New Year's Day, the day this photo was taken. As much woodland as being developed in the Piedmont these days, this facility is an example of fill in; space that already has businesses and office space all around it. Formerly, this was an empty cement lot. According to the Winston-Salem Journal, it sold for $2.35 million. Just behind this storage unit is the former Golden Corral Restaurant, a space that remains unoccupied. Hopefully someone has plans for that prime piece of real estate.
Happy Wednesday!
