Waving Santa returned to Friendly Center, as he always does, on Black Frida- on the Friendly Avenue side. He has been in place during the Christmas season since 1959. He arrived from Pennsylvania in 1959, two years after Friendly Center opened. This 13' tall piece of nostalgia is one of those things people expect to see in Greensboro over Christmas. Especially now that the Santa of Chapman Street is gone, Waving Santa is one of the symbols of Christmas in Greensboro people seek out year after year.
If you are out with holiday clothing this weekend, perhaps for the Candle Tea at the First Moravian Church or the Festival of Lights this Friday, or the Holiday Parade this Saturday, don your favorite holiday clothing and stop by for a photo. Do be careful, it is in a high vehicle traffic area. The traffic safety personnel are out directing traffic in Friendly Center, so be careful and respect their signals. It's beginning to feel a lot like December.
Happy Thursday- the last day of November!
