According to their website, the Marine Corps League is the only congressionally charted US Marine Corps related veterans organization in the United States. It became an organization in 1937 under President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Guilford County Detachment 260 is based out of Jamestown and was founded in 1972. This chapter has members from every conflict the Marines have served in since World War II.
If you missed yesterday's parade, High Point is having one today and the Field of Honor is always open. Because we like to post something spiritual on Sundays, we looked up the religious affiliation of U.S. military veterans. It appears that about 66% are Protestant, 23% Catholic. Just under 4% are minority faith groups (including Jewish, Muslim, Orthodoxy, Mormon, Buddhism, Shinto, Hindu, and Sikh. Just under 6% unknown.* If you want the statistics of Veterans religious affiliation by state, see here.** Veterans Day is a more joyful celebration than Memorial Day as the latter remembers those who died serving our country. For all of our readers who are veterans, thank you for your service.
Happy Sunday!
