Yesterday, we had the opportunity to visit Southeast High School. We were struck by the friendliness of all the teachers and staff. Additionally, the Parent-Teacher-Student Association provided a chili lunch for teachers and staff. Options ranged from traditional to turkey based to white chili. The white chili options were consumed first. Yesterday and today in Guilford County Schools are teacher workdays. While workdays can be a challenge for families without childcare, these days are much needed for teachers to get paperwork done and prepare lessons for the remainder of the semester. On site, we were impressed with all of the art in the school. The above piece is located on an interior courtyard, located just outside the art classroom. The globe in hand sends the message that, with hard work and a commitment to learning, students have access to the world.
Schools are closed today to give people an opportunity to attend the North Carolina A&T University Homecoming.* If you want to be part of the fun, head downtown or to campus. Crowds are predicted to be large. Remember alum and current students, make good choices. You've got the whole world in your hand. Thinking of PTSA, it would be interesting to know how many parents, teachers, and students in the Guilford County Schools will attend the NC A &T State University homecoming. We're betting a LOT!
Happy Friday, everyone!
* See here for more information about what is billed as "The Greatest Homecoming on Earth."
