This view of the Greensboro skyline was taken from Southside, just south of the train tracks. It captures many of the 20th century buildings that come closest to being skyscrapers. At the time it was built in 1923, the Lincoln Financial Group (LFG) building, originally the Jefferson Standard Building, was the tallest building between Atlanta and Washington, D.C.. The Jefferson-Pilot building, just to the left and two stories taller (with the green roof and time and temperature), was added in 1990. Now, the whole complex is part of LFG.
We love to hike the city and see our grand skyscraper from as many different angles as possible. We even have a tag for it, see the JP Building. We first featured in Year 1 of GDP on October 13, 2009. If you attend the Veterans Day Parade on Saturday, November 11th, it will begin at noon at the corner of Lindsay and North Elm Street, very near the JP/LFG building Let us know your favorite place to view this building. We are still hoping to get an invitation to watch sunrise or sunset from the top! Do you have a connection for us?
Happy Thursday!.
