This past week was the birthday of the Moravian Church in North Carolina. In 1752, the Moravians purchased 99,000 acres in North Carolina which would become Forsyth County and Bethabraba. Bethabraba was founded November 17, 1753. A Moravian church was first established in Greensboro on October 5, 1908. The above photo features the First Moravian Church Greensboro on Elam Avenue. Initially, the congregation met on Lee Street (now Gate City Boulevard). The congregation moved to Elam in 1937 in a facility they called "the hut". According to the cornerstone on the above building, the first church erected on this site was in 1948, and the building you see above was erected in 1984.
We are entering the season when the Moravian church will hold all of their Christmas events, most of which are well attended by the Greensboro community at large. The candlelight tea, the displaying of the putz, and the holiday market will be Friday, December 1st and Saturday, December 2nd. If you haven't experienced these events, we urge you to do to. See more, HERE.
Happy Sunday!
