The Westerwood Neighborhood Association held their Annual Chili Cookout this past Sunday. The weather was perfect and the turnout tremendous. People ate chili, reconnected with neighbors, celebrated the children born since last year, and listened to the music of the Westerwood String Band. The above photo features nearly empty crock pots as it was so fun trying the different recipes. There were very generous prizes for for mild, medium, spicy and vegetarian chili. This was a big fundraiser for the Westerwood Neighborhood Association and they are planning to use the funds to enhance the Lake Daniel Park. One item they are purchasing is an adaptive swing to make the park more accessible. The grand prize was an overnight stay at the O'Henry Hotel with restaurant vouchers. These community-building events are priceless. Does your neighborhood have any community-building traditions? If not, it is never too late to start one. It helps to attend some events and get an idea of what is popular and what makes them a success.
Happy Tuesday!
