The college was founded in 1873 in the basement of St. Matthews United Methodist. In the beginning, Bennett was co-educational. In 1926, the college was reorganized and became a school for women only.
The weekend kicked off with a Women and Democracy in Morocco Symposium in the Global Center Multipurpose Room. Program participants, a global studies team of Bennett College and Guilford County Schools educators, participated in a month long excursion in Morocco. The 12 participants presented heir individual projects, which were researched during the month-long Fulbright-Hays Short Term Group Project Abroad grant. Yesterday's symposium at Bennett was free and open to the public. In attendance were Bennett faculty and alumnae, students from the A&T Middle College, and and other community members.
