Yesterday was a glorious day to be in Greensboro. The weather was fabulous and there was so much to do. We started our day at the Greensboro Pride Festival, an event supporting emotional, social and mental health needs of those who identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community. The event has been around since 2006 and is predicted to have served over 60,000 people this year. The event is completely staffed by volunteers. Corporations like Ralph Lauren, Volvo, and Ecolab had booths there. Even Sheetz had a place to apply for jobs; vendor booth spaces were sold out. Walking around were parents, offering free hugs. Alternative Resources of the Triad organizes the event.
The above photo shows the Greensboro History Museum booth in the parking lot on the South 300 block of Elm Street. You could glue a puzzle piece on the board of someone or an event that has been underrepresented in history. There had been several people at the table, we just happened to snap the photo between clusters of visitors. The Greensboro History Museum a vita, relevantl community resource. How wonderful that they take advantage of increasing their visibility in the community and to spread the message that all are welcome at the museum. The museum is not just about the past, but also about making history. Stop by the museum at 130 Summit Avenue and see for yourself. We'll feature more photos of the pride event throughout the week. It was a riot of color!
Happy Monday!
