The above photo was taken a couple of weeks ago on Walker Avenue, near Josephine Boyd Street. The open heads of those seed pods reminded us that fall is the time for plants to go to seed to ensure the continuation of the species. Each center of those hairlike stars contains a seed. The feathery shape helps them float far and wide. This naturalness is emphasized in the Bible. In Genesis (1:28), God reminds Adam and Eve to procreate. In Psalm (127:3), it is written that children are the fruit of the womb. Fall in Greensboro is a lovely season and, as we walk around town, we are reminded that plants die, but have in them a way to plan for rebirth in the spring. A wild front yard like this is not for everybody, but if you stop and look, it is teeming with life (and future life).
Have a great Sunday and try to take time to look around to see those signs of fall, which will officially arrive on September 23rd.
