For those of you who formerly purchased groceries at the Harris Teeter at the corner of Muirs Chapel and 4640 West Market Street, this is the space today. Formerly painted "Harris Teeter", look at the building now. It definitely grabs the attention! What kind of business could be going in near Joann's Fabric and the Shoe Market? It is a huge space and work is being done on the inside. That Harris Teeter opened in 1999, employing 60 people. It closed in the above location twenty-one years later in 2020. Remember, it was in 2006 that the Harris Teeter in Friendly Center opened. Known affectionately by locals as the Taj MaTeeter, at least at the time it was built, it was the largest Harris Teeter in North Carolina.
Scenes like this one are what we see every day, representing change in Greensboro. As soon as we see change, of course we want to ponder what a space was like in previous iterations and how it will transform in the future. That lone car in the middle is there to provide perspective. This, too, is a large space. Stay tuned!
Happy Saturday!
