Last year, Triad Goodwill received more that 25 million pounds of donations. We're guessing once the donations get pulled from the shelves of the "regular" Goodwill stores, they move on to the by-the-pound Goodwill. Their ads, however, say that it is the same quality as in their retail stores. Definitely, the by-the-pound venture takes treasure hunting to the next level. The above outlet is located at 1235 South Eugene Street. Clothing, shoes, stuffed animals, and toys are sold at $1.59 a pound, and household goods, furniture, electronics, etc. are 79¢ a pound. If you are interested, here are the rules. It is interesting to see what is being sold there and how people are shopping.
Our big take-away, however, is the fact that in the Greensboro area alone, more than 25 million pounds were donated to Goodwill. Over-consumption is definitely an issue; however, as we learn to reduce consumption, reusing and recycling helps. Wondering just how long we could go without making purchases of non-essentials!
No need to GUESS WRONG that items are "pulled" from the shelves of "regular stores". Some are. But MOST go directly from donations to the pound store, due to senior staff direction. Your donations sold for pennies rather than the 'help' you thought you were giving. (Not at Habitat for Humanity, Salvation Army, etc.) Which is why many, many used goods 'dealers' are there, 'working together' to 'box' the occasional shopper OUT when the carts are rolled out (Often with the regular dealers knowing when coming and where to stand for the 'go' signal to grab and aggressively shove. It can be brutal . Of course this is why the local goodwill pays saleries of ... OWNER, yes OWNER of the "charity" !, CHRISTOPHER GORHAM (PRESIDENT AND CEO) $291,270 + big benefits ... almost 400,000,
BRADY MINK (EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT & CFO) $188,510
CELESTE MACMURDO (EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT OF OPERATIONS) $185,862
JESSICA SCHULTZ (VICE PRESIDENT OF CAREER DEVELOPMENT SERVICES) $144,363
PATRICIA CAUDLE (SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT OF HUMAN RESOURCES) $138,165
GEORGE LOTHIAN JR (VICE PRESIDENT OF INFORMATION SERVICES), etc ..... not $ 8.85 cent per hour and up to $22 an hour they pay most employees.
