The above photo, taken earlier this week, is on West Friendly Avenue at Westover Terrace. Much construction in this area took place in the late 1930s and early 1940s and it has continued to evolve over the decades. This is the part of Greensboro where the cluster of locally owned shops is trying to rebrand as West End. There is a consignment shop, restaurants, a designer and home furnishing store, a sewing shop, and more. If you are looking for stay-cation ideas, and you don't know about "West End", consider having lunch at one of these restaurants and visiting another store or two. Since the weekend is upon us, this would be a good time to do so.
As you can tell, this is a view heading east, into downtown. The sky was looking rather dramatic on the day the photo was taken. On the horizon, the city's iconic beacon, the Lincoln Financial Group (LFG) building, attracts our attention and always helps us navigate the city. Dare we say, all roads lead to LFG? This photo gives you a good view of the rolling hills around town, proof positive that we are in the Piedmont region, between the mountains and the flatlands at the coast.
Happy Friday!
Quite a dramatic sky.

That's where I spent my teen years, in the late 1950s. Our house was at 111 Westover Terrace, next to a parking lot on the corner (just to the right in that photo). I don't know if the strip mall, as it was sometimes called, added to or subtracted from the house's value, but the cluster had a Piggly-Wiggly grocery store and across the street was a barbershop and a pharmacy. How convenient!
