Cindy Farmer's career in television journalism spans more than thirty years. Cindy has been in Greensboro since 1990, when she moved from Virginia to assume a position at WFMY. In 1997, she switched to Fox 8 where she anchors the morning and noon news.* As part of her assignment at Fox8, she hosts "What's Right With Our Schools." In the above photo, Cindy is at The Middle College at UNCG (MCUNCG), covering a story about four middle college teachers and their principal who will travel to Morocco together this summer. The teachers have this wonderful educational opportunity, a Fulbright-Hays grant, written and obtained through Bennett College. That collaboration between higher education and high school faculty is indeed "what's right with our schools." All involved in the Morocco trip will develop materials to share with students and staff, with the end goal to enhance global mindedness and interculturality.
Cindy is committed to finding these stories that give the public at large a window into positive aspects of a K-12 public education. Her easygoing questions, big smile and friendly demeanor all put interviewees at ease. Her disposition is as sunny as her blouse. The MCUNCG "What's Right" story should be airing soon.
Related to "feel good" stories, Cindy graduated from Virginia Tech and is an avid sports fan. We imagine she was pretty excited to see her Virginia Tech Hokies women's basketball team beat the Louisville Cardinals yesterday, making the Hokies the ACC Women's Basketball Tournament champions yesterday.
Happy Monday, dear readers!
