Tis the eve before the eve before Christmas. Above, we see a mom with her three daughters ringing bells at the Salvation Army kettle in front of Belk at Friendly Center. Yesterday we wrote about philanthropist Mariam Brenner and her desire to model giving for her children and grandchildren. The mom in the photo today, has the same idea, not simply telling her children to be generous with their time and intentions, but to scaffold the act of serving others. All three girls were vested in the task and we weren't the only ones who asked to take a photo while donating.
While many of the Christmas tree stands in Greensboro have closed up shop, the bell ringers for charity are still ringing strong; whether, literally as in Friendly Center, or figuratively, as in the shelters with white flags up. White flag days are ones where people in need of shelter can spend the night inside of designated places (YWCA, GUM Weaver House lobby, IRC). They can use our support- especially this time of year.
For those who celebrate Christmas, we wish you a merry one; regardless of what is celebrated, let us all remember to help others- as best we can.
I've given to our local campaign.
