Berico has been a Greensboro business for nearly 100 years. Owned by the Berry family, originally, the business was on West Lee Street, which is now Gate City Boulevard. Next, they moved to Bragg Street, and they have been on East Bessemer Avenue since 1950. They have a large heating and air business. However, what got us to the store was the fact that they recertify propane tanks. At the front of the parking lot, they have this vintage coal truck from their original location. How fun to see what vehicles used to look like, but also to see the old address and to see a four digit phone number. There is so much history in that vehicle. As the need for coal fell out of fashion, Berry Coal became Berico.
Berico has a nice "about us" page on their website where there is also a 30 second YouTube video. It would be so wonderful if all businesses documented and shared their history, especially the local ones. So much changes and documentation matters. If you are out on East Bessemer stop by and checkout this little piece of history. Earlier in the year, they were even giving out calendars!
Happy Thursday!
