With the rain we've had lately, mushrooms seem to be popping up before our eyes in Greensboro. In searching mushroom identification pages, we're pretty sure that these are Destroying Angel mushrooms and they are highly toxic. For living things, we often search resources through NC State (see HERE). If you love learning about mushrooms, you might consider joining the Piedmont Triad Mushroom Club. This Triad area non-profit will help you gain a greater understanding and appreciation of mushrooms. If you've been to the Greensboro Curb Market on Yanceyville, likely, you've seen people selling mushrooms of just about every color. You can talk to vendors and they might even be able to help you get started in growing mushrooms as a hobby.
The greenway and trails are a great place to see mushrooms in the wild; as is the Piedmont Environmental Center. Any shaded place with undisturbed leaf and stick matter is usually a great place to spot mushrooms. Remember, unless you are on your own property, please don't be tempted to pick the mushrooms. If you want a closer look of the underside, use your phone camera and take a photo. It works well. They are especially common after a rain.
Happy Wednesday! Happy exploring!
A new one to me.
