Today's photo features the Downtown Greenway. The runner in the above photo is on the section at the corner of Market Street and Murrow Boulevard, heading south on Murrow. Edward R. Murrow was a broadcast journalist and war correspondent. Mr. Murrow was born in Guilford County in 1908 and made an international name for himself; he is indeed deserving of a street named after him. Now that the greenway parallels Murrow Boulevard, his name may has more prominence in the community. He died in 1965 so it has been 57 years since we have heard his voice. It would be special to have a stop along Murrow Boulevard with the option to see and hear him broadcasting, like the exhibit that is installed in the Greensboro History Museum.
As shared on the website of the City of Greensboro, most of the greenway is 12 feet wide, with landscaping, benches, bike racks, trash and recycling receptacles, and public art*. The downtown portion of the greenway is four miles long, connecting businesses, universities, and neighborhoods. If you follow the link below, you can see a map of the loop, showing the completed parts (East Greensboro) and the parts still in process (from Spring Garden Street to West Smith Street). If you get a chance this weekend, head down and have a look!
Note: We are having some technical issues with photos loading on Typepad. Hopefully, they will get them resolved soon)

I did not know Murrow came from there.
