Elm street has has been getting a waterline replaced. They are also installing bicycle lanes. The goal for the city is to install 75 miles of bicycle lanes within five years. The end goal is to encourage more bicycle usage and to make it safer to ride a bike. On Elm Street, the footprint of the street will not change. The bike lanes will be installed without widening the road. Here is a map of the project. If you are out and about and if possible, it is a good idea to detour from the part of North Elm near Bessemer Avenue. Something about this photo evokes yesteryear. With the Access Greensboro public transportation and the wires above, it is as if one of the trolleys from yesteryear will be clinging along any minute.
Having just interviewed Mr. Spear for yesterday's post, we have newspapers on the mind. In preparing this post, the information we learned about the project was found on the website of the City of Greensboro. Maybe something was posted in the News & Record, but the city's site was the one we saw. It occurred to us that increasing, to get information, one has to have good search logic and go straight to the source, making all of us self-appointed journalists, of sorts. We miss all of the local news, slice-of-life, and features about the people of Greensboro that one gets from a true, community newspaper.
Happy Wednesday, the start of the last week of August!!!
Similar work is underway here.
