Yesterday was the summer solstice, bringing summer to the northern hemisphere. While there wasn't a spectacular sunset over Lake Higgins in Greensboro, it was a beautiful day. Yesterday was sunny and the temperature ranged from a low of 60º to a high of 90º; at sunset, it was 82º. Sunrise was at 6:03 am and sunset at 8:39. The above photo was taken around sunset at Lake Higgins on the longest day of the year, with about 14 1/2 hours of daylight. Contrast that with December 21, 2022, the winter solstice when, in Greensboro, the sun won't rise until 7:26 and it will set at 5:09, giving us about 9 1/2 hours of daylight.
May we all use this extra 5 hours of daylight wisely. Lake Higgins is open today, and it will be a warm, sunny SUMMER day, perfect for kayaking or paddle boarding on the lake. Both are available for rent there. Look for us paddling the day away. Last night we saw an otter swimming along when we were out taking this sunset photo. Wonder what we will see today!
Very calm conditions.
