The eastern swallowtail butterflies are back! The above photo features one of the butterflies in our back yard in Greensboro. The red zinnia in the photo was purchased at the Greensboro Farmers Curb Market in early May. Now, the plant is in full bloom and attracting butterflies and other pollinators. They do seem to be partial to the red flowers. If you head to one of the local farmers markets today, you can still buy flowers to plant and attract butterflies and other insects to your own yard. If you go to the farmers market on Yanceyville today, after it is over, you can drive through the Dunleath neighborhood and hear some great music. Today is Porchfest!
Today, the Greensboro community is invited to listen to some original music in Dunleath where neighbors offer their porches as music venues. Musicians play at various houses, with most sets lasting 45 minutes; then at the end, everyone ends up at Sternberger Park to conclude Porchfest. Here is the link to the 50 groups/performers participating this year. If you attend, please park at Swann Middle School and bring a lawn chair. The event will last from 12 noon- 5pm, with the last hour being at the park. Porchfest is such an outpouring of family, neighbors, friends, great music, and, likely, a butterfly or two. Every year the event continues to grow and this year promises to be spectacular! Hope to see you there.
Happy Saturday!
A lovely close up.
