Today's photo is of the Greensboro History Museum, located between Davie and Church Streets at Summit Avenue. The above view is a photo taken from the parking lot of Tanger Center. If you are ever walking around downtown as the sun is getting ready to set, notice how beautiful the buildings are- especially on a sunny day. We took several on the same day. The sky was blue, the clouds dramatic, and, as you can see from the flags furling and their shadows, the wind was blowing.
Formerly, this building was the First Presbyterian Church of Greensboro, built in 1892, on the site of what had been a Confederate hospital. The church cemetery is still located on site. The new First Presbyterian Church is about a block northwest, in the 600 block of North Elm Street. It has been open since 1929. Both buildings are so beautiful and hold so much of Greensboro's history. If you have time this summer, head downtown and tour both. The museum is always open to the public. The church regularly holds events in which the public is invited.
If you are looking for a Memorial Day event to attend, today at the Guilford County Veterans Memorial in Country Park, the Steve Millikin Black Cap Veterans Group will host a ceremony from 2:00- 4:00 pm. Former Mayor of Greensboro and U.S. Coast Guard Veteran Bill Knight will speak. There are several other events taking place today and tomorrow. The News & Record has published a list (HERE). (We hope you are able to access it. We subscribe and are able to see articles).
Happy Sunday!
Quite a beautiful building.
