Today is May First. In many places, it is International Workers' Day. In the above photo, taken last Sunday at Congregational United Church of Christ on Radiance Drive, it is a scene of their Earth Day celebration and a day to pray for Ukraine. All the blue and yellow strips of cloth have prayers and words of concern for Ukraine written on them. There is a duo playing music in the background, and a duo of children playing with nature stamps in the foreground. All is so peaceful in this shaded corner of the church lot.
The labyrinth at the church symbolizes wholeness; the path is meandering, yet purposeful. The labyrinth is a place of meditative prayer, a journey to the center and back again. The quilt the children are on adds even more texture to the scene, with the circle in the middle of the quilt echoing the circle in the middle of the labyrinth. The whole scene itself is calm and sedative in a world we humans seem to make so complicated for ourselves. It is so important to seek out these places of calm and to take time to reflect on all that is good in our lives. Just looking at this scene is guaranteed to move blood pressure in the right direction. Happy Sunday! Happy International Day of Workers! Happy all of us, especially the little ones on the blanket!
I like the labyrinth.
