It isn't very often that Greensboro feels like a big city. However, there is a little alley tucked away downtown, between Scuppernong Book Store and Jerusalem Market on South Elm Street. From Greene Street, it is behind the Bodega Store, across from Carolina Theatre. Walking along that alley really, you really get that big city feel. You can see stoops, cars carefully parked, balconies, and views of businesses looking from the outside in. It is fun to follow the Rainbow Alley from start to finish.
If you want to find the alley, look for the rainbow road, artwork done by Gina Franco in 2016. The alley is easily accessible from 111 West Washington Street. The rainbow matches the artwork on the Greene/Washington Parking Deck. From the alley, you will notice life downtown in a way that isn't as noticeable from the front part of the storefronts. You may even see an alley cat along the way.
Happy Saturday. Happy exploring Greensboro this weekend
Well photographed!
