Harry Turfle, front right- holding a cup of paint and a paintbrush- is lead artist on the Creative Greensboro Project in Glenwood. This weekend, artists and community members came out to help with the painting of the crosswalks at the corner of Glenwood Avenue and Grove Street. The painting was the culmination of many neighborhood discussions and meetings between interested Glenwood residents. Harry said, in true artists' fashion, the group had to change their plans for the design. The special paint needed for painting on asphalt was not available in yellow and purple (supply chain issues)! They didn't want to delay the project. As you can see above, the slightly more muted palate is actually quite striking and the black and white squares add a lot of energy to the design. The Glenwood group wanted the design to have movement without being too distracting to pedestrians.
Harry, passionate about community art, especially in his Glenwood neighborhood, identifies as an "wast coast mutt," having lived in several cities and states along the eastern seaboard. Harry came to Greensboro to attend UNCG, where he earned an MFA in art. He is very happy to call Greensboro, and Glenwood, home now. Thank you Harry for all you are doing for the community.
