Today's photo was taken earlier in the week on Brass Cannon Court, a residential street tucked neatly at the end of the neighborhood that wraps around the Greensboro Country Club Farm Course. While there are houses to the right and left, if you look due east, there is a relatively unobstructed view of trees and big sky. It also shows how glorious the afternoon can look with the sun closer to the horizon and shadows stretching along the way. The crepe myrtle to the left has just started taking on some fall color. Indeed, Greensboro is on the cusp of the transition to fall. L.M. Montgomery, author of "Anne of Green Gables," wrote, "I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers."
While Montgomery lived in Canada, where fall comes earlier, the quote is so fitting for Greensboro. We live half way between the beach and the mountains. October is one of the busiest months for North Carolinians to get to the beach. There are fewer tourists from elsewhere and we can get there in just a few hours. Also, from Greensboro, the mountains are a short day trip away, making it possible to head up to apple orchards and to see fall a richer color palate ahead of ours, due to being at a higher elevation. The anticipated temperature range for Greensboro today is from 57º to 77º which means sweater weather! Grab a wrap to keep warm early morning and evening, but during the day, when the scene looks like the one above, you can tie that sweater around your waist and keep walking. Have a great Wednesday and may you find a way to celebrate the season. Even the animals are scurrying around taking advantage of the October weather.
I like this view.
