We love to brag about how beautiful Greensboro is in the spring, with all of the azaleas and dogwood blooming. However the crisp fall nights this week have been pretty spectacular. At 3:00 a.m. this morning, the temperature dropped to 63 degrees, which qualifies as sweater weather. It is also possible to sleep with the windows open, or go camping. The above photo features the sunset last night. We happened to be out walking near Carlson Dairy Road and the sky was filled with a spray of clouds that looked like it was radiating from Lake Higgins. What could make clouds take that form? It seems like it must be winds coming from the west.
If you look up in the tree tops, you just may notice butterflies migrating south. They fly higher when migrating. While the butterfly sightings are best in the North Carolina mountains, you can still see some around Greensboro.* If you want to learn about the monarch migration, here is a link to the group that actually tags them so they can gather data. It is hard to believe that something that weight less than a paper clip can be tagged and tracked. Happy Wednesday and, whatever you do, carve away a little time to get outside. We'd like to think there were butterflies floating along in those clouds last night.

A glorious sunset.
