Today's photo features Our Lady of Grace (OLG) Roman Catholic Church on West Market Street in Sunset Hills. It was taken on Palm Sunday, just after church had ended. The church is so large, it is necessary to photograph it from the other side of the street to get a photo of the whole facade. These beautiful, exterior walls are made from pink granite from Salisbury, NC.
The first mass was held at OLG in 1952. If you are local, you likely know the great love with which OLG was built. Greensboro businessman Julian Price, a Baptist, funded the building of OLG for his deceased wife Ethel Clay Price, who had been a devout Catholic. Tragically, Mr. Price died in a car accident before the church was built. If you ever have a chance to attend a service at OLG, you will have a chance to see the stained glass windows imported from Belgium. They are best appreciated from the sanctuary. Also, the pipe organ, a Kleuker from Germany, is known for its high quality tone.* While OLG is 69 year young, it has such a rich history, and it is so wonderful that this history is well documented and easily accessible through the internet. May it continue to serve its congregation for generations to come. Happy Sunday!
