Today's photo is part of a series we took at twilight a few weeks ago. This photo of Industries of the Blind on West Gate City Boulevard it low-resolution and blurry, but something about it speaks to us. It is the kind of photo art teachers use to teach about vantage points. The building on the right is the Industries of the blind. It is located at 914 Gate City Boulevard, but the windowless building extends for nearly a city block. The organization does so much for giving employees job skills, financial independence, and a great sense of community. If you drive by when work lets out, you will see people coming and going and they look happy and you can tell they enjoy being together. The organization began in 1933 with 6 people making mops and has expanded to over 200 employees and in its 88th year, has diversified its products, securing million dollar contracts.
Someday, we hope to get inside for a tour of the facility. For now, the building remains this expansive place on the north side of Gate City. The buildings on the left are some of UNCG's newest, which are situated on the northern end of the Glenwood neighborhood. If you have time this weekend, head out and explore Greensboro's streets at twilight; follow the horizon and see where it takes you. Happy Friday!
There are such organizations here as well.
