The above photo was taken at the bridge on Carlson Dairy at Lake Higgins. The sunset was so beautiful and the water was still; a perfect combination. Greensboro's three lakes have gotten popular during the pandemic. People are using the lakes for water sports and using the hiking trails surrounding the lakes. HERE is a list of Greensboro's hiking trails, brought to us by the city of Greensboro. The Bald Eagle Trail along Lake Higgins is 4.1 miles and the Bald Eagle Loop is 1.2 miles. For part of this trail, the lake is visible. Someone even put chairs down by water's edge and many people take their hiking breaks at these chairs.
Lake Higgins is a 226-acre municipal reservoir, the smallest of our 3 lakes. It si so small they have stopped allowing boats with motors on this lake because invasive aquatic plants were chocking out native plants.* So far, this situation is not an issue on Lake Townsend and Lake Brandt and motorized boats are still allowed. On an non-related note, recently, we used the above photo as a backdrop for Zoom meetings. People as far away as Santiago, Chile can say they've seen a sunset on Lake Higgins.
