Tis the season of abundant mushrooms in Greensboro. With all of the rain lately, mushrooms of every shape and color have been pushing through lawns and forest floors, on logs, at the base of trees and in composting wood.
The above photo was taken along the Bald Eagle trail in northwest Greensboro. The trails have been rather slippery lately. If you are out walking, do be careful. Please remember to leave the mushrooms undisturbed. The spores grow in the conditions that are perfect for them. One of our readers mentioned that the genetic composition of mushrooms is closer to that of humans than plants. If you have a friend who is a mycologist, they can fill you in on the interesting world of mushrooms.
It is fun to lower a cell phone or camera to the forest floor and capture mushroom memories in photos! Happy Thursday!
I would have no idea which is safe and which is toxic.
