Yesterday, while passing through the Starmount neighborhood of Greensboro, we had a chance to talk to Danny Farley. You may remember him, with his wife Mary Kate, who owned Great Harvest Bread Company in Friendly Center for 16 years. Since selling the bakery, Danny has been busy pursuing many hobbies. Above, Danny is sharing information about one of his new passions, beekeeping. He started maintaining hives in 2017 after researching all of the "dos and don'ts" for about a year. Currently, between Greensboro and Caswell County, Danny maintains eight hives. He is standing inside the enclosure in his backyard with his beehives. Inside this fenced in area he also has several plants for the bees to pollinate. While bees don't tend to bother people and go merrily about the business of gathering pollen and making honey, Danny made sure none of his neighbors was allergic to bees before beginning the beekeeping venture.
In addition to beekeeping, Danny raises Japanese maples, varieties that are hard to get locally. He also has chickens. When asked if he sold eggs, he chuckled and said, "I have four boys, three of whom still live at home." In other words, they go through eggs about as fast as the hens can supply them; and yes, they intend to get more chickens. As if those talents aren't enough, through taking lessons at the Art Alliance of Greensboro, Danny has become quite a potter. Truly, the Farleys are living the good live, getting back to nature, and have plenty to keep them busy at home. Everyone in Starmount seems to know and love the Farley family. If you spend even a few minutes with them, you will understand why!
That sounds quite busy in the household.
