Zinnias are still going strong in Guilford County! They are hearty plants, in the genus of plants with sunflowers and daisies. They are annuals, but once they start blooming, you can keep them blooming all summer. Butterflies like them and, as seen in the above photo, they add a bold pop of color to any yard. This yard is out in the county, northwest of Highway 220- aka north Battleground Avenue.
It is fun to see what people put around their mailboxes and it sure adds visual interest for pedestrians out trying to get a little exercise on these beautiful pre-fall days. In Greensboro, it is really popular to have clematis plants twisting around arbors and mailboxes. However, having a tall variety of zinnias makes a striking statement, too. It may look like this plant is blocking the mailbox, but it is not.
Very pretty!
