What appeared to be a McDonnell Douglas/Boeing C-17 Globemaster was doing touch-and-gos, flying over northwest Greensboro yesterday. Likely, they had been dispatched from the Air National Guard base in either Charlotte, NC or Charleston, SC. The Wal-Mart at North Battleground Avenue is up on a hill and when the plane flew overhead, several small children were pointing and having great conversations with their parents. These planes are very large and imposing, especially when in the landing pattern.
The Piedmont Triad International Airport has been relatively quiet with the decrease in commercial flying. However, it is not uncommon to see people sitting in the landing path near the airport watching planes coming in for a landing. If one of the plane watchers (or anyone else) has more details about yesterday's maneuvers, please let us know. The little cell phone doesn't capture the beauty of the plane, but it does give you an idea of the size and shape. By the way, an optical illusion makes it look like it is flying towards your screen, which is why it looks like the plane only has three engines. Actually, it is flying away from the page and one of the engines is hidden by the fuselage. Happy Wednesday!
Thank you! It shook my house and freaked me out!
