Today, we're on South Elm Street, a wonderful place to be on Saturday. In the background, you can see the S.H. Kress & Co. Building, on the street, you can see the "BLACK LIVES MATTER" sign painted right into the street. It is painted school bus yellow and every block is done by a different artist.
S.H. Kress & Co. was a "five and dime" retail department store. They were known for their ornamented architecture and for being on main streets of town. The Greensboro store was just that. The Greensboro store was built in 1930 and the architect was Edward Sibbert. Perhaps it was serendipity, perhaps purposeful, that this original street art was painted here 90 years after the department known for its artistic details. Wonder if anything will be added 90-100 years from now. It is fun to think about.
Happy Saturday!
Good shot.
