Happy 50th birthday, Jane. We have no idea who Jane is, but we do know that someone in the Kirkwood neighborhood of Greensboro. As we were driving through Kirkwood last week, just down the street from Independence Drive, this message was spray painted on the street.
Kirkwood is a Greensboro neighborhood, nestled between Lawndale Drive, Cone Boulevard, and Cornwallis Drive. It came into being in the 1920s, but really got built up in 1946, just after WWII when soldiers were returning to Greensboro and starting families. In that year, 140 homes were built by contractors who had built barracks in North Carolina, using techniques of mass production that they had used in building the military buildings. If you want to read more about this neighborly neighborhood, read this article we used as a reference from the News & Record. After reading Andrew Barrow's 2015 article about Kirkwood, you will understand completely how it is that Jane's birthday is celebrated even in the streets!
Happy belated birthday, Jane and hopefully you are not shy about sharing your age with everyone. May the next decade be the best one ever! We'll stop by in 2030 for your 60th!
That's one way of expressing it, in this current era.
