The graduation season in Greensboro has started, and the public high schools have all organized drive-through ceremonies Students pull up in their car with family members and walk across the stage, one-at-a-time to be recognized, to get their diploma and to officially graduate. Billy Joel's 1986 song "This Is the Time" has so many lines appropriate for the Class of 2020. "This is the time to remember, cause it will not last forever." The Class of 2020 has had to learn to navigate so much change.
Yesterday, the middle and early colleges held their ceremonies on their respective campuses and the weather was lovely. The above photo took place on the UNCG campus for the Middle College at UNCG. Ms. Andrea Green, Teacher of the Year at the Middle College, called out each student's name. Principal Keisha Brown and Dr. Tony Watlington, Chief of Schools, were also on the dais for the ceremony. To the left, you see photographers on hand to capture the moment on film. Truly, this is a time in their lives they will remember. This has been a pivotal year on so many levels. Hats off to Guilford County Schools for providing a safe and memorable ceremony for all of its graduating seniors. It will be a memory students will hold with them for a lifetime.
That sounds well orchestrated.
