Fred "Curly" Neal, the Harlem Globetrotter from Greensboro died yesterday. He was 77 years old and living near Houston. As of this post, his cause of death in unknown. We featured him on Greensboro Daily Photo in 2010 and it has already been ten years. We were in the Food Lion at Cardinal Crossing and he came in. He was so nice and very graciously stood around chatting with fans and signing autographs. See our post from February 9th, 2010, here.
North Carolina has always been a basketball state and Greensboro has been known as tournament town. Mr. Neal was raised around great basketball and back when he was at Dudley High School, he was playing great basketball. While he traveled the world with the Harlem Globetrotters and for basketball, he never forgot his hometown. You will be missed, Mr. Neal.
Ed Hardin has an article in today's News and Record. If you want to read the CNN article, see here.
He must have been quite a presence.
