Over the last century, tattoos have gone from homemade markings on the bodies of sailors and prisoners to beautiful works of art done by artists. The above photo is of the arm lizard tattoos on Anne (Benbow) Timberlake. We met Anne while shopping at Just Be, downtown on Elm Street. With all of her body art, it looks as if Anne is is part of the store display. Anne's bracelets are from Just Be and match her tattoos perfectly. Anne, who wanted us to focus on her tattoos, as opposed to her face, had several tattoos done in R.C. Gorman's art studio in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Anne is a lifelong resident of Greensboro who attended Lindley Elementary and Junior High and Grimsley High School. She coats her tattoos with sunscreen daily so that the color will remain vibrant. There are so many great tattoos and tattoo artists in Greensboro. Perhaps we'll have to start sharing more of them. Also, next time we see Anne, we'll convince her to let us feature her smiling face!
Admittedly I've never understood the appeal to tattoos.
